With 10,000 tons of ice cut for the warm months, the Moose Point Icehouse is filled with lake ice.
BLOCKS of ICE
Throughout the country, from the Great Lakes to every single smaller lake in the US, harvesting ice became a natural event, and mostly a necessity. To preserve food and make the hot summer months bearable, ice was cut with long blades of huge saws and then lifted from the ice. Only the pure frozen lake water is selected. The ice house at Moose Point stores tons of ice like other Sporting Camps do. And what a winter event it is... as snowmobiles make their way into the wilderness for a day of "work" on the lake.
STUNNING - In Any Season...
The Moose Point Camps "mascot" prepares for another season.
Isn't this a beautiful picture? Ice cutting on the lake is an annual event considereed a "ritual."
Another storm bears down in the great North Woods.
